Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation following the murder of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Mr. Andrey Karlov
On December 19, 2016 Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Turkey Mr. Andrey Karlov was murdered during the opening session of photo-exhibition in Ankara.
Russia strictly condemns this cruel assassination which were an attempt to undermine international efforts on working out the political solution of the Syrian crisis as well as the process of normalization of the Russia-Turkey relations. This incident obliges us even more vigorously wage an uncompromising fight against terrorism in all its manifestations.
We are expecting Turkish authorities to work tightly with Russian representatives in regard to hold a thorough investigation of all the circumstances of this barbaric crime, identify an punish the organizers as well as ensure safety of the Russian citizens in Turkey, diplomatic missions and their personnel.
